EcoScraps, a Utah company that provides organic and manure-free lawn and garden products, has received a $250,000 grant to expand the business.
The grant for the Provo-based company came from Mission: Small Business, a joint effort of JP Morgan Chase & Co. and LivingSocial, an online supporter of local businesses.
A panel reviewed nearly 70,000 applications from small businesses across the country and the program used votes from 3.1 million consumers to pick the winners. EcoScraps was one of 12 companies to receive the Mission: Small Business grants, which totaled $3 million.
EcoScraps bills itself as a maker of "no-chemical, no-poop" compost and other products for lawns and gardens. The company said it is redirecting 100 tons of produce waste each day from grocery stores away from landfills and into its products.
