"The recent drop at the pump was largely driven by lower crude oil prices around the globe," said Matt Skryja, spokesman for AAA Utah. "The decline is linked to a slew of concerns about global economic weakness, including worries about sovereign debt in Europe, signs of a slowing economy in China and bearish economic data in the United States."
Of the Utah cities surveyed by AAA, Vernal had the highest average price at $3.68 a gallon. Ogden had the lowest, at $3.45. The average price in Salt Lake City was $3.47 cents a gallon.
Skryja noted that the average price of unleaded regular gasoline nationally stands at $3.38, down 16 cents from a month ago and 25 cents less than the national price last year.
He said Hawaii, holds the dubious crown for the highest average price in the nation at $4.41 a gallon. The highest price reported by AAA in the continental U.S. was in Eureka, Calif., where the average was $3.98.
