Verizon Wireless, the country’s largest cell phone provider, has announced it is expanding coverage of its high-speed 4G data network to include Cedar City, Logan, Brigham City and Park City.
Although Verizon did not have a specific date, it expects the launch to begin in the next few weeks.
The cellular network, which allows users to surf the Web or stream video or music wirelessly to mobile devices, is about 10 times faster than the older 3G data networks. Verizon was the first provider to launch a 4G network in Utah. It turned on that service last year in Salt Lake County, Ogden and Utah County. AT&T is launching its own 4G network later this year.
The new coverage areas for Verizon are:
Cedar City » From Interstate 15 north to North Minersville Highway.
Logan » The city, including the Utah State University campus. Service will extend north to Logan-Cache airport and south to the intersection of U.S. 89 and 3200 South, including the town of Providence.
Provo » Extending south to Santaquin and Nephi.
Salt Lake City » Extending north to U.S. 91 and I-15, including Brigham City.
Park City » Including Summit Park.
