Utah-based International Academies of Emergency Dispatch has purchased the former Deseret News building at 30 E. 100 South from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Terms weren’t disclosed.
The company, which develops software systems for dispatchers in 911 call centers worldwide, had been leasing property from the LDS Church at 139 E. South Temple but needed more space for an expansion, company officials said.
Instead of leasing more space downtown, the company had the opportunity to purchase the building, which is across the street from the LDS Church’s new City Creek Center shopping mall.
"The company was founded in downtown [Salt Lake City] and we wanted to stay here," said President Alan Fletcher.
The company will occupy six floors and half of another in the nine-story building, he said, and plans to lease the remaining space to two other companies. Its name will be placed on the building soon.
When it was housed in the building, the Deseret News occupied six of the nine floors and leased space to three other tenants.
The building housed the newspaper from 1997 to late 2010, when the Deseret News moved to the Triad Center on 300 West.
