Utah grocers fight muscular dystrophy
First Published Jun 04 2012 10:18 am • Last Updated Jun 11 2012 09:46 am

Associated Food Stores and their corporate owned grocery stores, which operate as Macey’s, Dan’s, Lin’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market, raised nearly $93,500 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The grocery cooperative held various promotions to help raise funds for the MDA, including the Shamrock Against Dystrophy campaign at its affiliate stores. While all stores participated, the Macey’s store located in Sandy earned the most.

"We love participating in these events to help out organizations like the MDA," said Tony Macey, director of the Sandy Macey’s store. "Not only does our store team get behind these causes, but our community does as well as evidenced by the amount of money we were able to present to the MDA."

The Salt Lake-based Associated Food Stores first partnered with the MDA over a decade ago. In the last five years, it has raised more than $500,000 to help fight the neuromuscular disease.

"The retailers of Associated Food Stores are dedicated to the communities we serve," said Neal Berube, president and CEO. "Associated is committed to strengthening our neighborhoods and helping our friends, neighbors and guests lead more fulfilling lives."

Associated Food Stores is an independent retailer-owned warehouse, which provides warehouse facilities and services to nearly 400 grocers throughout the Intermountain West.
