The Department of Defense agency Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve has announced that L-3 Communications of New York City is a finalist for the 2012 Employer Support Freedom Award.
A Utah Air National Guard member who works for L-3 Communications in Salt Lake City nominated the company.
L-3 hired the employee, even though she lacked an engineering degree. The recruiter determined that her military experience qualified her for the job, officials say.
L-3 supplies electronic products and services to the aerospace and defense industries.
The Freedom Award is the department’s highest recognition given to employers for exceptional support of employees who are Guard and Reserve members. A review board selected 30 finalists from 3,236 nominations.
Since it was established in 1966, the award has been given to 160 employers.
