Smith’s Food & Drug Stores has begun its 20th annual campaign to raise funds to help young patients at Primary Children’s Medical Center.

The in-store effort in Utah and parts of Idaho, Wyoming, and Nevada will continue through May 26. Shoppers also may support activities such as quilt auctions, carnivals, yard sales and petting zoos.

Since 1992, the chain has donated $7.5 million and seeks to raise $500,000 during this campaign to further the hospital’s mission of providing medical care for children of the Intermountain area without regard to race, religion or the ability to pay.

Primary Children’s Medical Center has the distinction of being one of only 12 pediatric Trauma One hospitals in the nation, and sees an average of 125 children a day in the emergency room. In addition, the hospital offers cutting-edge care in more than 60 subspecialties, from cancer to diabetes, and asthma to orthopedics.
