Waste Management, a Houston-based company that has extensive operations in Utah, has opened a new compressed natural gas fueling station in West Jordan.

The station, located at 8652 S. 4000 West, is open to the public.

Waste Management, which has had operations in the state for more than 60 years and employs 190 Utahns in full and part-time positions, collects and disposes of all kinds of waste. It is also one of the largest residential recyclers and a developer, operator and owner of waste-to-enegy and landfill gas-to-energy facilities in the country.

The company said it is helping to expand the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the Salt Lake City metro area by investing in CNG waste and recycling collection trucks and by opening a public refueling station for other fleet operators.

There are now more than 30 CNG stations throughout Utah. Most are operated by Questar Gas.

Waste Management's new CNG station was opened with the support and partnership of Utah Clean Cities and PetroCard, a fuels distributor. PetroCard and Waste Management opened the first compressed natural gas fueling station in Seattle in May 2009.
