Next month, the business law firm of Stoel Rives LLP and the Utah Technology Council will recognize 27 Utah innovators for ingenuity in developing cutting-edge programs, processes and products.

In its 10th year, the Utah Innovation Awards are presented in eight categories.

Rob Yates, a corporate partner with Stoel Rives and co-chairman of this year's program, praised the breadth of the 2012 recipients, who were selected by a 50-member committee drawn from private industry, government and academic sectors.

"The diverse composition of this year's honorees — cancer-related therapies, interactive education tools, hydration packs and a custom packaging machine — serves as a very promising indicator of the strength and promise of Utah's economy."

Honorees in each category are the following:

Biotechnology • The two finalists are Oncology Epigenetic Therapy by Salarius Pharmaceuticals and TP-0413 by Tolero Pharmaceuticals Inc.

Clean Technology and Energy • The finalist is W-10 Wind Power Universal Transmission by VMT Technologies LLC.

Computer Hardware/Electrical Devices • The three finalists are Glasses-Free Color Animated Holograms by Holorad LLC, Solid State Vacuum Device by InnoSys Inc. and SparkChaser by LiveWire Innovation.

Consumer Products • The three finalists are FIX Technology by Skullcandy Inc., Geigerrig Pressurized Hydration Pack by Hub City Outdoor and WaterBlock by HzO Inc.

Consumer Software and Web Services • The three finalists are Playground by Rain, SHOUT TV Mobile App by SHOUT TV Inc. and Soropad by Inception Learning.

Enterprise Software and Web-Enabled B2B Solutions • The three finalists are Canvas by Instructure, Needle by Needle Inc. and SiteTablet by Property Solutions International Inc.

Mechanical Systems/Chemicals/Manufacturing • The two finalists are CarbonX Aluminized Fleece by Chapman Innovations andEM7-25 by Packsize International LLC.

Medical Device • The two finalists are Andra Gauge by Kosmo Technologies and Low Power Ultrasound by Bard Access Systems Inc.

The May 1 awards event, at the Marriott City Center at 220 S. State St., in Salt Lake City, will showcase innovations at 11 a.m. followed by a noon luncheon.

Tickets for the event range from $50 to $70 per seat, depending on whether the attendee is a Utah Technology Council member. A table for 10 can be purchased for $450.
