The Governor's Office of Economic Development board of directors approved two incentives on Thursday.

One was for the San Francisco-area company Workday Inc., which is planning to open a computer center in the Salt Lake Valley. The incentive of $2.7 million will be provided to the company as it creates as many as 243 jobs over the next 10 years.

Workday provides human-resources and payroll-management software and services over the Web. Its planned Salt Lake center will employ programmers, project managers and payroll specialists. The company has yet to choose a location for its operation.

Founded by PeopleSoft veterans Dave Duffield and Aneel Bhusri in 2005, Workday claims more than 1,000 employees and 280 customers.

The second incentive was from the state's Industrial Assistance Fund. It was a one-time economic-opportunity grant of $482,510 that was provided to Visit Salt Lake, which was formerly the Salt Lake Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Those funds will be used for the installation of temporary space to accommodate the Outdoor Retailers trade shows, which twice a year fill to overflowing the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake City.
