KSL went outside to hire a new anchorman — but not too far outside.
The station has announced that Dave McCann, the voice of the Cougars on BYUtv, will succeed Bruce Lindsay as the station’s lead male anchor. He’ll work the weeknight 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, teaming with Nadine Wimmer.
"I’m thrilled," McCann said. "I just can’t wait to get started. We’ve got a great crew there. I’m looking forward to settling into Utah for, I hope, a long, long time."
The native Utahn, BYU graduate and longtime Las Vegas newsman will continue to do play-by-play on Cougar football and basketball games and host the sports magazine show "True Blue" on BYUtv.
"My role with BYUtv remains unchanged, which I’m ecstatic about," he said. "I love working here at BYUtv , and with KSL seeing that as a positive, it’s just a win-win-win for all three of us."
McCann spent the past 19 years at KLAS-Channel 8, the CBS affiliate in Las Vegas — 13 years as a sports anchor and the past six years as anchorman of "8 News Now This Morning." He also did radio play-by-play for UNLV football for 14 years.
According to KSL, McCann will join the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts in mid-May. KSL’s vice president of news, Tanya Vea, said Lindsay’s retirement is set for late May or early June. He will then serve as president of the Australia Perth Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
