The Salt Lake City office of CBRE Group Inc. has been selected to handle the sale of six office buildings owned by Novell Inc. in Provo's East Bay Business Park.

CBRE also will try to arrange the sale and lease back of the adjacent Novell Tower, an eight-story, 397,346-square-foot structure that will continue to house Novell's operations in Utah.

"Provo is the center of technology and technological innovation in Utah, and Novell has been a big part of the city's evolution and rich history," said Bob Flynn, president of Novell.

Flynn noted that the business software company has operated in Provo for more than 30 years and continues to maintain a commitment to the community. "Both Novell and the Attachmate Group look forward to being a significant part of Provo's future."

Novell develops and sells computer networking software. It was acquired by the privately held Attachmate Group last April in a deal worth $2.2 billion.

The proposed sale/lease back of the Novell Tower also will encompass an adjacent 26,353-square-foot annex bulding that houses an employee cafeteria.

"Upon the sale of the property, Novell will lease both the Tower and the annex building from the new owner for an initial term of 10 years," CBRE said in a statement announcing the deal.

CBRE added that Novell, which in recent years has employed more than 1,000 people in Utah, plans to continue to operate and manage the property without change after the sale is completed.
