One month to go before the grand opening of City Creek Center, and dozens of retailers are scrambling to staff their stores and fill them with merchandise.
At Tiffany & Co., store director Julie Peterson said the chain has hired 15 people, three of whom are managers hired from other states. Next up is jewelry and other items, which are set to arrive soon.

Mall owner Taubman Centers Inc. wants as many of the 80 planned stores and restaurants as possible to open when the 800,000-square-foot shopping center makes its debut on March 22.
So far, Taubman has announced a partial tenant lineup of about two dozen retailers, led by Tiffany and other high-end shops such as Michael Kors. Taubman is holding off on the next round of tenant announcements to generate more excitement closer to opening day, but a growing number of retailers are making their plans known as they prepare to open stores in the mall.
At Tiffany, Peterson said the merchandise mix may surprise some who think of the retailer only as a luxury brand. "We feel like we will have something for everyone," she said, noting that, on the lower end, the store will have keychains for about $70 and necklaces that start at around $125.
City Creek Center general manager Linda Wardell said Tuesday that more tenants will be announced on March 1 to go with anchors Macy’s and Nordstrom.
Among the largest employers in the shopping center, Nordstrom has a number of job openings on its website. Click on "careers" at Nordstrom.com and use ZIP Code 84101. The retailer will begin moving in merchandise in early March, spokesman John Bailey said.
Macy’s also is hiring and is listing openings at Macysjobs.com. The retailer has full- and part-time positions available in departments throughout the store, as well as support positions in receiving and stocking, spokeswoman Kelley Tarzian said.
Like most of the stores in City Creek Center, the work of placing merchandise in Macy’s will click into high gear early next month.
The retailer also has announced it will host a charity shopping day on March 17. Salt Lake City-area nonprofits, schools and churches will sell $5 shopping passes and get to keep 100 percent of ticket proceeds. Those who buy a shopping pass get a preview shopping day at the Macy’s store five days before it officially opens, as well as exclusive offers and discounts.
Several organizations are selling the $5 shopping passes, including Discovery Gateway children’s museum (Childmuseum.org), Tracy Aviary (TracyAviary.org) and the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Co. (Ririewoodbury.com).
City Creek Center, bounded by State Street and West Temple, and 100 South and South Temple, is part of the larger City Creek development owned and managed by the development arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
