Eligible employees of Delta Air Lines in Salt Lake City will receive $10.1 million on Tuesday as part of the carrier’s payout of $264 million in profit-sharing for meeting 2011 goals.

The payment on Valentine’s Day is equal to almost 5 percent of all eligible worker’s annual pay, CEO Richard Anderson said in a letter to 80,000 employees.

Delta has more than 3,000 employees stationed at its Salt Lake City International Airport hub, including 600 pilots. It isn’t clear how many local workers will receive payments. However, the payments suggest that the carrier’s Utah employees may earn around $200 million a year in wages or salary.

Delta’s 2011 profit totaled $854 million, 44 percent higher than in 2010. The airline’s $425 million fourth quarter set a record as it cut seat capacity and raised fares. The money it made flying a passenger a single mile rose 12 percent.

The Atlanta-based airline has turned a profit two years in a row.
