Salomon USA said Friday it plans to open its first U.S. store in City Creek Center, the new downtown Salt Lake City shopping center opening next month.

The store will carry Salomon-branded apparel, shoes, accessories and other so-called soft goods items sold on the Salomon website. Salomon hard goods, which includes skis, boots and other equipment, will still be sold by other, independent retailers.

The store will refer those who inquire about Salomon equipment, such as skis and snowboards, to Utah specialty stores that sell those products, said Salomon spokeswoman Hilary Hutcheson.

"It’s been great to work with our retail partners to elevate the Salomon brand in the U.S.," Mike Dowse, president and general manager of Ogden-based parent company Amer Sports Winter and Outdoor Americas , said in a statement.

The company didn’t have an exact opening date for the new store. City Creek Center is scheduled to open for business on March 22, and most of the stores in the 800,000-square-foot center will debut that day, as well.

City Creek, bounded by State Street and West Temple, and 100 South and South Temple, is an upscale shopping center owned and operated by Taubman Centers Inc. It is part of the larger City Creek project owned and managed by the development arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, and includes offices, condominiums and apartments.

In September, Taubman released a list of more than two dozen tenants, including Tiffany & Co., that plan to open in the mall. City Creek will have about 80 stores and restaurants, led by retailers Macy’s and Nordstrom. Taubman plans to announce the full lineup of tenants, including Salomon, closer to the mall’s opening date.

Amer Sports Winter and Outdoor Americas said it has plans to open additional stores, but did not offer details.
