Headwaters Inc., a South Jordan-based building products company, has reported its strongest first quarter performance in more than three years.

The company said its revenue for the period ended Dec. 31 increased to $137.4 million from $135.8 million, compared with the same period a year ago.

Still, the company reported a loss from its continuing operations of $13.3 million, or 22 cents per share, compared with a loss of $18.8 million, or 31 cents per share, for the prior fiscal year’s first quarter.

"Our core business segments, light building products and heavy-construction materials, completed the strongest first quarter performance in over three years," Chairman and CEO Kirk Benson said in a statement announcing the company’s results.

Benson added that even though the company’s second quarter is typically its slowest, Headwaters expects to see continued year-over-year improvements in its core business segments.
