Zak and Marcy Miller of Richmond were named among the top 10 finalists in the Young Farmer & Rancher Excellence in Agriculture Award during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s national convention held in Honolulu.
The award recognizes young farmers and ranchers in the country who do not derive the majority of their income from an agricultural operation, but who contribute to the industry through involvement, leadership and participation in farm-related organizations.

"We’re really happy to have made it as far as we did in the competition," Zak Miller said. "There were some really great competitors from throughout the country. Making it in the top 10 is really an honor."
The Millers won the Utah Farm Bureau’s Excellence in Agriculture Award in November, making them eligible to compete with other state winners around the country. The national convention ended last week.
"It’s fantastic to have a young farming couple from Utah recognized among our country’s finest," said Leland Hogan, president of the Utah Farm Bureau Federation. "We don’t have the same numbers involved in agriculture as they traditionally do in states like California, Iowa and Tennessee, so it’s great to see Utah’s young people recognized."
Zak Miller is an animal nutritionist for Cargill Animal Health in Cache County. Both he and his wife come from agricultural backgrounds in Idaho, with Marcy growing up on a dairy farm and Zak’s family raising beef cattle and growing wheat and potatoes.
