Dick's Sporting Goods is opening its second store in Utah on Wednesday, but its big splash on Layton's business scene will come later this week.

The formal ribbon-cutting ceremony is Friday for the sporting goods retailer, the country's largest with 457 U.S. stores.

And then Jimmer Fredette will be there Saturday.

The former Brigham Young University All-American, drafted in the first round by the Sacramento Kings, will be greeting visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the location in Layton Hills Mall, 1201 N. Hill Field Road.

Real Salt Lake will be represented by players Tony Beltran and Nat Borchers on Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. Basketball shooting contests, prize drawings and other activities also are scheduled. Store hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

"Dick's Sporting Goods is excited to become a member of the Layton community," said Lauren Hobart, the company's chief marketing officer. Dick's other Utah store is in The Gateway shopping center in Salt Lake City.
