Reports continue to pour in of "phishing" phone messages by callers claiming to represent Wells Fargo, and a spokesman says the bank is trying to shut down the scam.

Mark Chapman on Monday wouldn't directly address the latest phishing episode, which has been ongoing for weeks and includes a voice message that tries to trick customers into divulging details about their debit and credit cards. Some would-be victims don't even have Wells Fargo-issued cards.

Wells Fargo works with law enforcement officials and vendors to close down scams as fast as possible, Chapman said in an email. "While I can't provide more details, I can tell you that we take our customers' security very seriously," adding that the bank doesn't want to tip off phishers about the way it investigates scams.

If a customer receives a suspicious email, text or call, and did not share any personal account information, the message should be forwarded to reportphish@wellsfargo.com.

Customers should call 1-866-867-5568 if they have given out personal or account information. —
