The Internal Revenue Service has awarded $132,000 in matching grants to two Utah organizations for a program designed to help low-income taxpayers with their taxes.

Provo-based Centro Hispano received $57,000, and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City got $75,000.

They are designated as organizations that represent taxpayers for free in federal-tax controversies with the IRS, as well as provide tax education and outreach for those who speak English as a second language, according to an IRS statement released this week.

For the 2011 grant cycle, the IRS has awarded $10 million in matching funds to 165 organizations nationwide.
