Materion Corp. is the new name of Brush Resources, which has a beryllium mining and milling business near Delta.
Brush Resources is one of the subsidiaries of Brush Engineered Materials Inc., which officially changed its name March 8 to Materion. Company stock will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the new symbol MTRN.
Based in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, the company also established a new website, www.materion.com.
Materion produces high-performance materials used in consumer electronics, defense and science applications; industrial components; airplanes; automotive electronics; telecommunications infrastructure; energy; medicine; and appliances.
Brush Resources Inc. spent the first nine months of 2010 developing an open pit bertrandite ore mine in Millard County, 10 miles north of Delta. The bertrandite is combined with beryl ore and converted at a mill into beryllium hydroxide, a raw material in strip and bulk products.
Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration records shows that the mining complex had 68 employees during the fourth quarter of 2010, down from 77 two years earlier.
Along with Brush Resources, a half-dozen other subsidiaries will use the Materion name. They are Brush Wellman Inc., Williams Advanced Materials Inc., Academy Corp., Barr Associates, CERAC, Thin Film Technology, Techni-Met LLC and Technical Materials Inc.
