Nine attorneys have resigned from the intellectual property law firm of Workman Nydegger to set up their own practice in Kimball Junction.

The new firm, Maschoff Gilmore and Israelsen, will specialize in patents, trademarks, copyrights and other intellectual property disciplines.

The attorneys left Workman Nydegger on Friday. The new firm opened its doors Monday, said Eric Maschoff, a founding shareholder.

"There was absolutely no dispute. It was just a decision on the part of several partners to pursue a new opportunity in the form of a new firm," Maschoff said.

Besides Maschoff, the attorneys are Richard Gilmore, R. Burns Israelsen, David Jones, Jonathan Benns, John Gadd, Paul Johnson, Heather Manwaring and David Call.

Workman Nydegger has 80 lawyers at its Salt Lake City offices. The loss of nine attorneys is notable, but something the firm can handle, said Brent Lorimer, president.

"We are the largest intellectual property firm in the Intermountain West, and we have always provided high-quality legal services, and we will continue to do so," he said.
