K.Flay • Press "play" on K.Flay's new album "Life as a Dog," and you might think you're listening to a sensitive indie-punk singer in the mold of Lisa Loeb or Karen O. But let it roll a few tracks, and the rapper (born Kristine Flaherty) reels you in with sharp rhymes and hypnotic rhythms. The songs on "Life as a Dog" — which she bankrolled with a Pledge Music fundraiser after she escaped her record label — were written while K.Flay was touring, opening for acts such as Passion Pit, Icona Pop and 3Oh!3. The result is an intriguing mix of genres, as she acknowledges in her press notes: "It's still a hip-hop record but it's also an alternative record, a pop record." Opening acts: Night Riots, Better Taste Bureau.
