A former Clearfield High School teacher accused of forcing a sexual encounter with a 17-year-old student has resolved her criminal case.

Gaile Kristine Supp, 25, entered an Alford plea last week to one count of third-degree sexual battery. With an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but concedes enough evidence exists to likely secure a conviction at trial.

A four-day trial had been set to begin Monday for Supp, who was originally charged in 2nd District Court with first-degree felony object rape.

She is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 29. According to plea agreement documents, prosecutors agreed to recommend against prison and ask for probation at sentencing. The third-degree felony conviction will not require sexual offender registration, and will eventually be expunged if Supp completes probation, according to the agreement. The victim in the case is not asking that Supp serve jail time, the agreement adds.

As part of the plea agreement, Supp also agreed to have her teaching license revoked and will not contest any action by the Utah State Office of Education.

A probable-cause affidavit filed by the Weber County Sheriff's Office alleges that Supp invited one of her female students to her house in West Haven in January 2013 to help the student with homework.

Supp allegedly showed the student a film with a sex scene and tried to seduce her. The student told her no, but Supp proceeded to sexually abuse the student, the affidavit states.

Supp was arrested on last April after authorities served a search warrant at her residence, but was released from the Weber County jail after posting $20,000 bail last year.
