A brush fire that threatened two homes near the mouth of Weber Canyon appears to be under control.
Firefighters from five agencies, along with the Weber County Sheriff's Office, responded to the fire about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was burning near where homes at the mouth of the canyon "meet nature," said Weber County Fire Marshal Brandon Thueson, so firefighters deployed a lot of resources to protect the homes "right off the bat."
The firefighters were able to protect the homes while they contained the blaze, which was estimated to be about an acre in size. No one was hurt.
The Weber Fire District plans to stay in the area through the afternoon to make sure the fire is out. A cause for the fire has yet to be determined, Thueson said.
The fire forced the Utah Department of Transportation to close the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 89 near the canyon. The road reopened about 1:10 p.m.
