An off-duty Cottonwood Heights police officer intervened in an intended bank robbery while he was running errands Thursday morning in West Jordan.

Officer Casey Davies went to Mountain America Credit Union in Jordan Landing about 11:30 a.m. when he noticed a man behaving suspiciously, said Cottonwood Heights Sgt. Corbett Ford.

"He's going in and out of the credit union twice, and going around to some other stores," Ford said. "Something just doesn't seem right."

Davies called dispatch and police arrived at the credit union, Ford said. They stopped the man and found a gun and a note he had prepared to give a teller, Ford said.

He later told officers in an interview he had planned to rob the bank.
