Four cars crash, a fifth flees in Wasatch County
Four cars crashed and another had to be chased down Monday evening in Wasatch County.
The crashes all occurred about 7 p.m. on westbound U.S. Highway 40, near mile marker 17, where the highway crosses the Provo River, said Utah Highway Patrol Cpl. Todd Johnson. Details are scarce, but the cause of the crashes might be weather related, Johnson said.
No one suffered life-threatening injuries.
Troopers shut the westbound lanes down, but a fifth driver drove through the closure, Johnson said. Troopers had to pursue the driver with lights and sirens for about two miles before finally ending the chase with a PIT maneuver, Johnson added. Investigators determined alcohol was obviously a factor, the corporal said.
Westbound U.S. 40 remained closed until about 7:45 p.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
