Rain causes flash flood near Escalante
Heavy rains reportedly led to a flash flood in Garfield County Wednesday.
The flooding happened about 4:40 p.m. in the upper Escalante region, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Christine Kruse. Authorities had little information about the scope or exact location of the flood, but Kruse said a federal employee in the area described it as a "pretty big one."
The flood came after the NWS issued flash flood warnings for the town of Escalante and surrounding areas, Zion National Park and the Johnson Wash drainage area in Kane County.
A Washington County Sheriff's dispatcher said that as of 5:30 p.m. there was no flooding in the St. George area.
