A rock climber was critically injured Tuesday when she fell 50 feet in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

The climber, 25, was rappelling down a rock face on Storm Mountain near the mouth of the canyon when she lost her footing due to heavy rain about 7:30 p.m., said Salt Lake County sheriff's Lt. Justin Hoyal. She fell about 50 feet to a scree pile and then rolled another 20 feet. She was with a coworker at the time.

She was taken to Intermountain Medical Center with injuries to her head and face, Hoyal said.
