A longtime Ogden school teacher will spend at least 30 years in prison after admitting to sexually abusing two teen boys.
Scott Ray McMurray, 58, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child and three counts of attempted sodomy upon a child, all first-degree felonies.
Last week, a 2nd District judge sentenced McMurray to 15 years to life in prison on each count. The judge ordered the aggravated sex abuse sentences to run concurrent to one another, and the attempted sodomy sentences to also run concurrently to each other. However, the judge ordered the sentence on the sodomy charges to run consecutive to the sex abuse charges, ordering McMurray to spend a minimum of 30 years in the prison before he is eligible for parole.
According to plea agreement documents filed in 2nd District Court, McMurray admitted to sexually abusing two 13-year-old boys on several occasions between 2008 and 2013.
Neither victim was a student of McMurray's, who had been employed by the school district for 16 years before his January arrest. He had most recently taught sixth grade at Heritage Elementary School, but was put on leave after his arrest, according to Ogden School District spokeswoman Donna Corby.
Authorities were alerted to the sex abuse by the Division of Child and Family Service, according to a probable cause statement. McMurray confessed to giving oral sex to the victims, and touching the victims' genitals, according to the police report.
