One week into the May sweeps, KUTV-Ch. 2 is still the clear leader in the late-news ratings race.
Here's a look at the Monday-Friday numbers for Week 1:
KUTV-Ch. 2 -- 11.6 rating/23 share
KSL-Ch. 5 -- 6.2 rating/12 share
KSTU-Ch. 13 -- 5.2 rating/10 share
KTVX-Ch. 4 -- 3.3 rating/7 share
(A rating point represents 1 percent of the 917,370 TV-equipped homes Nielsen estimates are in the Salt Lake Television market; a share point equals 1 percent of the homes where television is actually being watched at a given time.)
The good news for KSL is that it's in no immediate danger of falling into third place. The bad news is that, while news ratings are down across the board, Ch. 5's are down significantly from what they were during the May 2012 sweeps - a whopping 23 percent.
Ch. 2 is down 5 percent; Ch. 4 is down 8 percent; and Ch. 13 is down 10 percent.
Those three channels held steady in their share of the audience; KSL's share dropped 20 percent.
One week down, three weeks to go ...
