An inmate at the Utah State Prison in Draper died Sunday, a day after he was found hanging in his cell.

A news release said Allen Earl Davies, 67, was found about 2 a.m. Saturday hanging in his cell, which he occupied alone. Officers and medical staff immediately gave Davies CPR and re-established his pulse.

He was transported to a hospital where he died at 2:17 a.m. Sunday. His body was turned over to the Utah state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

The Unified Police Department is investigating Davies' death, as is standard practice.

Davies was convicted of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, in January 2002 and sentenced to one to 15 years in prison.

He was paroled in July 2006 but was returned to custody on a parole violation in April 2007. Davies was paroled a second time in June 2011, but a month later he had his parole revoked and returned to prison.

In June 2012, the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole gave Davies a release date of 2019.
