Jacksonville, Fla. • Suspended Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has checked into a voluntary treatment program and seems to be doing well.

Coach Gus Bradley told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the former Oklahoma State star and 2012 first-round NFL draft pick "is doing very well and he's learning a lot." Bradley says he is getting updates from Blackmon's agent.

Bradley adds that Blackmon is "healing and taking time for himself. The great thing is he has chosen this for himself. It's awesome to hear about."

Blackmon is suspended indefinitely without pay for repeated violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

He was previously suspended the first four games of last season for violating the policy. He played four games before getting suspended again — at least for a year.

Around the league

Bears • Jared Allen hated the view from the couch. He hopes to be in on the action this time.

Allen is confident he will be ready to play at Carolina this week for the Chicago Bears after missing a game because of pneumonia.

The five-time Pro Bowl defensive end is feeling "much better" after sitting out Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers. He returned to practice Wednesday on a limited basis and hopes to be ready when the Bears visit the Panthers this weekend.

Cardinals • Arizona coach Bruce Arians said quarterback Carson Palmer was seeing another specialist Wednesday after his injured shoulder regressed following some throwing last week.

Arians said Palmer's condition is "fairly close" to being back to what it was when he first hurt the shoulder in the season-opening win over San Diego.

If Palmer's damaged nerve doesn't improve in a hurry, backup Drew Stanton will get his third straight start when the Cardinals play at Denver on Sunday.

"He's very frustrated, like we all would be," Arians said. "He wants to play and is trying to find an answer."

Lions • Ndamukong Suh stuck to his policy of not talking about his contract status and the free agency that awaits him at the end of the season.

"Focus on Buffalo," the Detroit defensive tackle said. "I'm looking forward to playing against them, and it's as simple as that."

Over the weekend, an ESPN report citing unidentified sources said Suh and the Lions are preparing for the 27-year-old star to leave after this season.

The report said the idea of playing in the New York area appeals to him.
