Oakridge Elementary School in Millcreek was taking precautions Wednesday after a bobcat was spotted nearby early in the morning.

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources was alerted that a school janitor saw the bobcat run across the parking lot about 7 a.m. A division employee investigated and did not find the animal on the grounds, according to Scott Root, a DWR outreach manager.

No more sightings were reported but the school, at 4325 S. Jupiter Drive (3735 East), is taking precautions, said Ben Horsley, spokesman for Granite School District. Afternoon recess was held indoors, a police officer is on site and parents have been told that they can pick up their children if they prefer, he said.

In addition, students have been told to stay in groups and to keep their distance if they spot the bobcat, he said.
