A West Valley City man has been charged with automobile homicide in a May police chase that ended in a crash that killed three teens near Salt Lake City International Airport.

In court documents filed Tuesday, Unified Police wrote that Jonathan Ulises Analco-Cruz' blood contained marijuana metabolites and alcohol amounts more than twice the legal limit when he sped more than 100 mph May 17 on Interstate 80.

Cruz, 24, had three passengers in his Volkswagen Passat when police tried to pull him over at the airport. Instead, Cruz sped onto I-80, abruptly changing lanes as he tried to avoid police, officers wrote.

Cruz allegedly lost control while he was driving 103 mph. The Passat plunged into a pond near I-80, killing the three passengers: Michaela Martin, 18, of Taylorsville; 17-year-old Hardinger Cruz, of Salt Lake City; and Randy Ruiz, 14, of Midvale.

Cruz was found injured at the crash scene. He was carrying a fradulent Social Security card, police wrote.

Cruz was charged with three counts of automobile homicide and one count of failure to respond to an officer's signal to stop, resulting in death, all second-degree felonies; third-degree felony possession of forged writing; and misdemeanor driving on a suspended license.
