Ogden • Hill Air Force Base in Utah is adding F-22 Raptor maintenance work that's expected to bring 200 new jobs to Utah.
Base spokesman Rich Essary tells the Standard-Examiner the increased activity at the Ogden Air Logistics Complex comes while the Air Force ramps down Raptor activities at the Lockheed Martin facility in Palmdale, California.
Hill already has nearly 300 jobs associated with the F-22.
The expanded operation is expected to reach full capability by February, doubling the current Raptor maintenance workload from about 12 to 24 aircraft per year.
The last of 187 operational F-22s was built in 2011, at a cost of about $143 million each.
The decision to consolidate Raptor work at Hill was made in May 2013.
The jet is expected to have a 30-year lifespan.
