Salt Lake City Police were busy chasing a mountain lion seen wandering near homes and even in residents' backyards Sunday night. The animal was first spotted around 2:50 p.m., according to dispatchers.

Police were following the animal, but lost the trail a short time later.

It turned up again around 6:40 p.m. in the area near Foothill Dr. and Kensington Ave. Dispatchers said a wildlife official was on scene with a tranquilizer gun hoping to subdue the animal, which they eventually did on nearby Wasatch Dr. A wildlife official said the animal was a 75- to 80-pound juvenile.
