TENNIS • Second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark beat Garbine Muguruza of Spain 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 on Saturday to reach the final of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The U.S. Open finalist lost the first two games of the third set but took advantage of an increasingly erratic Muguruza and won when her opponent sent a forehand wide on match point.

Wozniacki, who won here in 2010, will meet third-seeded Ana Ivanovic of Serbia in Sunday's final. Ivanovic ousted top-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany 7-5, 6-3.

Muguruza had beaten Wozniacki in their two previous encounters, in the third round of the Australian Open in January and in Miami last year.

Wozniacki broke Muguruza's serve five times but lost hers four times in the two-and-half-hour match that featured plenty of long rallies. She faced 23 break points in all but saved 19, including all nine that she faced in the first set.

Sousa trumps Monfils to face Goffin in final

TENNIS • Sixth-seeded Joao Sousa of Portugal rallied to win 7-6 (6), 6-2 against second-seeded Gael Monfils and reach the Moselle Open final in Metz, France, where he faces eighth-seeded David Goffin of Belgium.

Goffin, who eliminated top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarters, beat Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the other semifinal on Saturday.

Sousa trailed 4-2 against Monfils, who blew two match points before losing to Roger Federer in the U.S. Open quarterfinals this month, but clawed his way back into the match and saved eight of the nine break points he faced. Monfils, the 2009 champion, had 13 aces but quickly fell 3-0 down in the second set.

Both finalists will go for their second career titles on Sunday, and play each other for the second time.

Goffin dropped only six games when he beat Sousa in the second round of the U.S. Open three weeks ago.

North Korean sets lifting world record

WEIGHTLIFTING • North Korea's Om Yun Chol has set a world record in the clean and jerk, lifting 170 kilograms in the men's 56-kilogram class at the Asian Games.

Om, the 2012 Olympic champion and 2013 world champion, beat his own world record Saturday by one kilogram to win North Korea's first gold medal at the games, a regional version of the Olympics.

Om also had a combined total of 298 kilograms to mark an Asian Games record after lifting 128 kilograms in the snatch.
