If you listen closely, you will hear Utah's autumnal fanfare. OK, even if you don't, it will be hard to miss the booming thunder and cracks of lightning.
That high-decibel light show punctuated rain showers and cooler temperatures throughout the region. Would it jolt the brain of Jim Morrison "squirmin' like a toad?" Riders on the Storm, indeed.
Well, as the Doors' tragic vocalist might observe, "into this world (and weekend) we're thrown": Friday brought intermittent thunderstorms and rain showers to the Wasatch Front, along with high temperatures in the high-70s to low-80s. After a sunnier, clearer Saturday with daytime highs in the mid- to upper-80s, Sunday provides an return of thunder, lightening and rainstorms and temperatures 5-7 degrees cooler.
With Monday the official start of fall, a similar pattern was in place for southern Utah, with these exceptions: thunderstorms on Friday break only into Saturday evening, when the precipitation and crackling skies return and continue through Sunday. High temperatures will be in the 80s to low-90s.
Storms bring cleaner air to the state, too. The Utah Division of Air Quality forecast of "green," or healthy conditions for the entire state throughout the weekend.
The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website listed ragweed and sagebrush as "very high," while chenopods and mold were "high" on its pollen index as of Friday.
