Three teens were injured Thursday night when their SUV went off the road and into the Jordan River, authorities said.

A group of bystanders jumped into the water, turned the vehicle upright and pulled two of the occupants out, Salt Lake City Fire Department Division Chief Robert McMicken said.

He said firefighters, who arrived two minutes after being dispatched at 6:41 p.m. to 800 S. Jordan River Parkway, removed the third occupant from the vehicle.

The three 16- and 17-year-old males were taken by ambulance to a hospital. The driver was in serious condition, while the other two had less serious injuries.

Lt. Brian Purvis of the Salt Lake City Police Department said witnesses told investigators the driver was speeding before the SUV before it went into the water.
