Nacogdoches, Texas • Weber State gets its final tuneup before the start of the Big Sky Conference season Saturday, when the Wildcats visit Stephen F. Austin.

Weber is 0-3 under first-year coach Jay Hill, who watched his team self-destruct in last week's 42-31 loss at Sacramento State.

Because of the Big Sky's unbalanced schedule, the game did not count in the league standings.

"We were out-executed early in the game and made lots of mistakes ... that were really costly," Hill said. "We have to get tougher and handle [adversity] better. We did a lot of things well on both sides of the ball, but we have to fix our mistakes."

The Wildcats lost three fumbles in the game, and got flagged for 10 penalties for 76 yards. Weber State played well in last season's opener against Stephen F. Austin. The Wildcats bolted to a 23-7 lead when Bo Bolen scored on a 100-yard kickoff return only 10 minutes into the game. Weber ended up winning, 50-40.

This season, Stephen F. Austin has started 2-1. After a 55-16 loss at Kansas State, it has beaten Incarnate Word (38-3) and Texas A&M-Commerce (28-17).

Quarterback Billy Green has played so far for Weber State. He threw for 377 yards against Sac State — the most by a Wildcat since 2009. Green ranks ninth nationally in passing yards per game (257.7). —
