Your vote helps feed the hungry in Utah

The Utah Food Bank could win $60,000 in Walmart's "Fight Hunger. Spark Change" campaign. But it needs your online vote. Fans can cast a ballot once a day until Sunday, Oct. 5, at walmart.com/fightinghunger. For the contest, Walmart has joined with six of the nation's largest food companies to distribute some $3.3 million grants to help fight hunger in their local communities.

Pledge $5 a week to help a small farmer

Spending just $5 a week at a small farm doesn't seem like much to most consumers, but it would make a big difference for small farmers, says Clinton Felsted, the owner of La Nay Ferme farm in Provo. That's why Felsted has started a small campaign on his website, lanayferme.com, asking all Americans to spend $5 a week buying food directly from a small farm in their community. The amount "would not put a dent in most American food budgets," he said. "But the $5 increase to small farms from community families would ensure that existing local farmers sell their supply of food." To learn more about taking the pledge, visit the La Nay Ferme blog at lanayferme.com.
