Salt Lake City police have arrested a man for shooting another man in the stomach outside his house.

About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, the 18-year-old suspect knocked on the door of a home near 600 N. 300 West and said he was looking for someone, said police Lt. Mike Ross. But when someone inside told the suspect that the person he was looking for wasn't there, he got angry, Ross said.

A small group of people escorted the suspect to the sidewalk, where he allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot a 20-year-old man in the stomach, the lieutenant said. The suspect fled and the victim was taken to the University of Utah Hospital. Though he arrived at the hospital in critical condition, the victim has since been upgraded to serious condition and police believe he will recover.

Meanwhile, officers were able to track the vehicle that the suspect fled in to West Valley City. Police took the man into custody without incident, Ross said.
