A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon, the day after he slammed into a car on State Street in South Salt Lake.

South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller confirmed that the 35-year-old Salt Lake City man, who was not wearing a helmet, was fighting for his life after the Wednesday accident — suffering severe head trauma and broken bones.

"He had a helmet strapped to his bike, but was not wearing it at the time of the crash," Keller said.

Police authorities confirmed that the man, who has not been publicly identified, died around 4 p.m. Thursday.

The cause of the 4 p.m. crash on State Street near 3400 South remained under investigation.

The motorcyclist was partially propelled through the rear driver's side window by the collision. No one inside the car was hurt.
