Former BYU and Arizona Cardinals quarterback Max Hall was arrested Friday on suspicion of shoplifting and possession of cocaine.

The Arizona Republic reported Tuesday that Hall was released following his arrest on suspicion of stolen items and narcotics possession in Gilbert, Ariz.

Gilbert police responded to a call to a Best Buy electronics store around 11:30 a.m. Friday and found Hall in possession of "several stolen items from Best Buy and a nearby Walmart," a police spokesman told the newspaper.

The spokesman said police also found a "personal use quantity of cocaine."

Hall played six games in the NFL for the Cardinals after an outstanding career at BYU.

He played briefly in the Canadian Football League the past few seasons, but was cut last June by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and has been an assistant football coach at Gilbert High in Arizona this summer. Hall, from nearby Mesa, Ariz., finished his college career with the most wins ever by a BYU starting quarterback, 32. As a senior, he led BYU to an 11-2 record and a 44-20 win over Oregon State in the Las Vegas Bowl.
