A Unified Police officer shot an armed man in Taylorsville late Friday morning.

UPD Sgt. Ken Hansen said the officer was responding to 911 calls reporting gunshots and "a man with a gun" outside the residence at 5514 S. Ridgecrest (3400 West).

At 10:26 a.m., immediately after the officer spotted the man and confronted him, gunfire erupted. The officer was unhurt, but the suspect was shot multiple times.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Jared Roskelley, was listed in serious condition at Murray's Intermountain Medical Center. His injuries were not believed life-threatening.

Hansen said it was not immediately clear whether Roskelley also fired at the officer during the confrontation.

Also unknown was whether the suspect lived at the address, was visiting or had arrived from elsewhere.

The officer who shot the man was on administrative leave pending review of the incident.
