Except for a brief foot chase, it may have been one of the easiest drug arrests ever for Salt Lake City police.

About 12:30 a.m. Sunday, while officers were talking with another man on the street near 200 South and 500 West, the 23-year-old suspect walked to a nearby group seeking drug paraphernalia. When the group pointed out the police presence, the suspect ran.

Officers pursued and apprehended him behind an adjacent building moments later.

The man was booked into Salt Lake County Jail, where he remained Monday in lieu of $4,495 bail on suspicion of possessing heroin, failing to stop at the command of an officer, failure to provide his personal information to officers, and outstanding misdemeanor traffic and DUI warrants.
