A Draper man who was badly burned Friday at a fire at his house has died.
Paul Broadhurst, 40, died at University Hospital's burn unit in Salt Lake City late Friday evening from injuries sustained in an explosion and fire at his home earlier that day.
Ryan Dickson, Broadhurst's brother, thanked the people who responded to the fire and provided care for Broadhurst.
"Our family is grateful to emergency medical personnel and health care providers who assisted Paul on Friday," Dickson said in a statement distributed by University of Utah Health Care. " We ask for privacy as we grieve the loss of our family member."
The fire at 15082 S. Junction Circle (235 East) was reported just after 7:20 a.m. Friday and leveled the two-story home, leaving just the frame and foundation. Neighbors ran to assist Broadhurst, who was flown by helicopter to the hospital.
The rest of the family was away and Broadhurst was the only one in the house at the time of the explosion.
Jared Norton, a public information officer for Unified Fire Authority, said the cause and origin of the two-alarm fire are under investigation. Draper city officials has said in a tweet that the fire was caused by a gas explosion.
