Charges filed against Utah man arrested after high-speed chase
A West Jordan man who was arrested last Christmas Eve after a high speed chase was charged Friday in 4th District Court.
The 42-year-old man is accused of fleeing from police after he and an accomplice allegedly stole tools from Wal-Mart in Springville on Dec. 24, according to a probable cause statement.
The chase began in the Wal-Mart's parking lot when a Springville police officer ordered the suspects, whom a store security guard had seen stealing the tools, to stop pulling out of their parking space.
Instead, they drove past the police officer and accelerated directly at two store security guards, who managed to avoid the oncoming car. The suspects' vehicle hit two parked cars as they sped out of the parking lot.
The officer temporarily lost the suspects but relocated them after hearing a report that their car had struck another vehicle on an Interstate 15 onramp.
After a high-speed chase that ended in neighboring Wasatch County, the men were arrested. Police discovered the stolen tools in their vehicle, which itself had been stolen out of Wyoming.
The defendant is charged with five felonies, including robbery and aggravated assault, and three misdemeanors.
