The recently resigned Blanding police chief is under a state investigation.
The Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST), which certifies officers, is investigating Lyle Bayles, who resigned from his department last Friday. While Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce confirmed Thursday there was an investigation, he could not comment on details because it is still active.
Bayles, a 28-year lawman, cited a desire to focus on his family and other priorities in his resignation letter, said Blanding city manager Jeremy Redd.
Redd had not heard of the state investigation until Thursday, and said the city was not aware of any problems.
Bayles joined the small department as its chief in August 2008. Two other officers resigned in March, citing similar reasons as Bayles, and the city does not suspect any problems with them either, Redd said.
POST is not investigating those two officers, Royce said.
